Green shines in Horspath's Oxon Cup triumph

STEPHEN Green hit a sparkling half-century to set Horspath on the way to a resounding 61-run victory at Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts in their Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup South Group opener.

Green hammered 68 from 54 balls, with two sixes and eight fours, to steer Horspath to 140-5 from their 20 overs on a tricky pitch. He was carrying on from where he left off in last year's final of the T20 competition when he top-scored with 49 in the 17-run defeat by Banbury. Mark Skelton, with a run-a-ball 21, and Darryl Brown, who smashed two sixes in his 19 from 12 deliveries, provided good support, while Arfan Ahmed took 2-24.

Following an early strike by Liam Manley, Nondescripts collapsed in spectacular fashion, losing five wickets with the score on 16. Tyrone Eyles, with three wickets in four balls, was the chief destroyer, before Skelton claimed two victims in the next over.

Nondescripts stuttered to 35-8, before Arfan blasted 33 from 32 balls, with three sixes and two fours, as the hosts were finally bowled out for 79 off 16.1 overs. Eyles finished with 4-8, Skelton 2-4, Manley 2-21 and Asad Rafiq 1-14.

Horspath continue their campaign away to Didcot Daredevils next week.
