Horspath handed trip to Great Tew in Village Cup opener

HORSPATH will open the defence of their Oxfordshire title in the Voneus Village Cup with an away tie at Great & Little Tew in the first round on April 24.

Lord's played host to the draw and is the
home of the national final in September
The club, which ended a 42-year wait to be crowned county champions last season with an 80-run victory over Aston Rowant in the Oxon final at the Recreation Ground, were paired with the Cherwell League Division 3B side in today's draw at Lord's - home of the national final on September 18.

Seventeen clubs line up in Oxfordshire (Group 19) this year with Minster Lovell at home to Horley in the one preliminary round tie.

A total of 339 clubs, from Meigle in Strathmore to Gulval in Penzance, have entered the 51st edition of the competition, including 24 former winners.

Defending champions Calmore Sports Club, who defeated Alvanley, of Cheshire, at Lord's in last year's final, are one of 18 teams in the Hampshire group where they have been drawn at home to Hambledon.

Herefordshire & Powys is the smallest group with three teams, while Essex & Suffolk is the largest group with 23 entrants.
