Eason leads the way as Horspath 2nd turn on style

HORSPATH 2nd's batsmen turned on the style in a 159-run win at home to Banbury 3rd in Cherwell League Tier 2B.

Skipper Robbie Eason (83no) top-scored with Tom Beresford (72), Sulaiman Hussain (53) and Dominic O'Connor (41) also shining after the hosts had been put in to bat.

Hussain, whose runs came off 37 balls with eight fours and two sixes, shared an opening stand of 112 with O'Connor before they were both out on the same score. Eason, who hit 11 boundaries and one six in his 61-ball knock, and Beresford, with 12 fours in his 66-ball stay, then put on 154 for the third wicket.

Banbury were never in the hunt after opener Rory McWade was dismissed for a fluent 37 as they eventually closed on 138-9. Leg-spinner Josh Richardson (3-14) led the way for Horspath, with Hussain (2-7), Luke Heritage (2-38), Charlie Turner (1-24) and Asad Rafiq (1-27) also among the wickets.

Horspath 3rd remain joint top of Tier 3A following a resounding ten-wicket win at Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd.

Sam Payce (4-29) and Josh Cummings (3-15) did the damage as Shipton were shot out for 104 after being put in to bat. Captain Andy Cummings and Joe Gibbs also picked up a wicket with only Chris Holmes (38) providing any resistance before he was run out for the last wicket to fall.

Max Smith then hammered his second consecutive half-century with an unbeaten 62 as he and Chris Batten (21no) saw Horspath to victory at 105-0. Smith's runs came off 67 balls and included ten fours.
