HORSPATH'S hopes of defending the Bernard Tollett Cup on Oxfordshire T20 finals day suffered a major blow with a nine-run defeat against Oxford in their Pool 3 clash at Jordan Hill.

Off-spinner Tom Cosford starred with 5-27 as Oxford were bowled out for 106 after being put in to bat on a difficult pitch. He was well supported by young spinners Alfie Turner (2-16) and Josh Richardson (1-19), while there was also a wicket apiece for Will Robertson and Jamil Faruq as Alex Morgan (24) top-scored.

Horspath looked to be on the way to victory with Cosford (31) and Stephen Green (24) producing some impressive strokeplay to put on 51 for the first wicket. But after they were parted the rest of the order folded to 97-9, with Rob Keat taking 4-8 and Dylan Swanapoel 2-14.

Horspath's final group game is due to be at home to Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts on Tuesday, but even a win there may not be enough to secure a return to Wormsley.
