Batten sees Horspath 4th home with maiden fifty

YOUNG Chris Batten hit his first Cherwell League half-century to steer Horspath 4th to an excellent seven-wicket win at home to Witney Mills 2nd in Division 7.

The 14-year-old finished on 67 not out as Horspath chased down Mill's 180-8 after putting the visitors in to bat. Openers Jonty Hedges (47) and George Crawford (25) laid the foundations, before Batten saw Horspath home at 184-4 after John Perkins chipped in with 27 as Anand Srinivasaraghavan took 3-61.

Earlier, Hayden Moon had been Horspath's stand-out bowler with 4-56 from 15 overs in Mills's innings. He was well supported by Robin Pykett (2-41), while there was a wicket apiece for Euan Barrett and Josh Cummings. Steve Holford (78) top-scored for Mills, before Manamohan Pandurangan (38) and Srinivasaraghavan (29no) boosted their total with runs down the order.
