Horspath face Oxford Downs in Oxon Cup final

HORSPATH will play Oxford Downs in the Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup final at the picturesque Sir Paul Getty's Ground at Wormsley, near Stokenchurch, on Saturday, September 15 (2pm).

Will Eason's side, who were runners-up to Banbury last year, earned their chance to go one better on Chadlington Brewery Oxfordshire T20 Finals Day by topping the South Group with a seven-wicket win at Aston Rowant last week.

However, it was initially unclear who their opponents would be as Downs and Banbury, who had won the last three finals, finished on level points at the top of the North Group. League positions are then determined on the result between the two sides, but their clash ended in a tie.

That meant net run rate had to be the deciding factor and the Oxfordshire Cricket Board have now announced that Downs, who beat Great & Little Tew by one run in their last game, came out on top. Their cause was helped by playing all seven of their matches, while Banbury had three games conceded.

Banbury's opponents in the Wilf Bennett Trophy final for group runners-up are Tiddington (11am).
