Max's Horspath service recognised by ECB

Max receives his ECB award from Graham Thorpe
MAX Eason's outstanding service to Horspath CC has been recognised by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Max received a 'Coach of the Year' award from Graham Thorpe, the former England batsman and now his country's lead batting coach, during the recent one-day international between England and Australia at the Kia Oval. He was nominated for the award - which recognises exceptional work and contribution within the local community through the development and administration of coaching at a grass roots level - by the Oxfordshire Coaches Association.

Max was one of 16 local club officials from across the south of England who were presented with the award on the day. He was joined at the Oval by wife Sandra and sons Alex and Will, while Robbie was playing for the MCC. He has also been nominated for the 2018 MCC Community Champion Award, which highlights the work being carried out by volunteers in cricketing communities.

Max has been at Horspath now for 54 years - firstly as a key player opening the batting in a side which won eight OCA Division 1 titles and eight Airey Cups plus four Village Cup Oxfordshire finals. As well as captaining the 1st and 2nd teams, he has also held virtually every position at the club, including chairman, secretary, fixture secretary, welfare officer, groundsman, youth cricket manager and bar manager.

He has also been the driving force behind the club's development off the pitch as the facilities have improved in line with the 1st XI becoming established in the Home Counties Premier League.
