Faruq’s six of the best lifts Horspath’s title tilt
Mon, 25 Aug 2014, 09:01
From today's Oxford Mail
JAMIL Faruq starred with 6-35 as Horspath got their Home Counties Premier League Division 2 title bid back on track with a comfortable five-wicket win at Chesham, who are relegated. Will Eason’s side remain four points clear of Reading at the top, and now need just five points from their last two games to secure promotion.
Chesham made a solid start after electing to bat first, with openers Matthew Rance and Australian James Day putting on 81 for the first wicket off 17 overs. But the introduction of spin brought an end to the partnership as Dean Conradie had Day stumped by Joey Todd for 37, with the ball rebounding off the wicket-keeper’s chest onto the stumps. Left-arm spinner Lloyd Belcher then trapped Rance lbw for 41, before Conradie bowled Barnaby Atkins with a quicker delivery to make it 87-3.
Chesham rallied to take the score to 131, before Faruq made an explosive impact with three wickets in four balls. He bowled Andy Goddard with a cracking delivery and then had Jack Maciver caught by it Cutter at second slip first ball. His attempted hat-trick ball went down the legside for a wide, before his next delivery was edged behind by David Hughes-D-Aeth.
Jason Rance (45) and Jason Gardiner (34) then took Chesham to 189 before both fell to Faruq, who was on a hat-trick for the second time in the match. Again it wasn’t to be, but Mohson Rana trapped Matthew Yeabsley lbw, before Faruq completed his six-wicket haul by having Christopher Royals caught by Robbie Eason at extra cover.
Horspath were then reduced to 8-2 with Robbie Eason playing on after shouldering arms to the impressive Day, whose ten overs cost just 11 runs, and Jimmy Phillips being adjudged lbw to Maciver.
But Joey Todd (49) led the recovery, firstly with support from Kit Cutter, and then in a good stand with Mark Skelton, who made his first Home Counties half-century with 54, which contained eight fours.
It was then left to Will Eason (33no) and Conradie to steer Horspath home with 2.1 overs to spare.

Horspath’s lead cut to 4 points after Reading claim win
Mon, 18 Aug 2014, 08:35
From today's Oxford Mail:
Robbie Eason top-scored with 77 not out for Horspath
Horspath's Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 title ambitions were dented with a five-wicket defeat by Reading in their top-of-the-table clash at the Recreation Ground. Will Eason's side remain top, but their advantage over the Berkshire club has been slashed to just four points.
After Reading won the toss and put the hosts in to bat, off-spinner Khalid Malik (2-27) made the first inroads with the wickets of Joey Todd and Jimmy Phillips. But Robbie Eason stood firm at the top of the order, batting through the innings for a gritty unbeaten 77 as Horspath posted 194-8 off their 50 overs.
Eason, whose runs came off 141 balls, with four boundaries and a six over the nets off the last ball of the innings, received good support from Shahbaz Ali (25) as they took the score to 99 in the 30th over when the left-hander was bowled by Kashif Nasim.
It was a solid foundation, but Horspath's swing section then hit all the wrong notes. Mark Skelton was bowled by Andrew Rishton, while Jack Beaven (3-46) had the big-hitting Jamil Faruq caught at long on by Martin Andersson, before trapping Pat Foster lbw first ball. And when Dean Conradie was caught behind by Sukhmeet Kang off Rishton, Horspath were in real trouble at 135-7. It was only when Will Eason (27) joined his brother that the innings regained some impetus, but even then the final total looked below-par.
The Horspath captain raised his side’s hopes further by gaining an lbw verdict against the dangerous Praful Waghela early in Reading's reply. Fifteen-year-old left-arm spinner Lloyd Belcher produced an excellent spell, conceding just 22 runs from his ten overs, which included the wickets of Andersson and Rishton, both with the score on 56.
However, opener Tom Fray, playing the anchor role to make 69 make off 121 balls, which contained six fours and one six, and Curran Gaur, then put on 97 for the fourth wicket as Reading took command. Adam Krol bowled Fray and Amardeep Dosanjh in quick succession. But the impressive Gaur saw Reading home with 2.3 overs to spare, pulling a short delivery from Krol through mid-wicket for the winning boundary, his tenth four in an unbeaten 75, which came off 95 balls.

A message from Dick Decaires
Mon, 11 Aug 2014, 16:48
Former 'Path player and Club Vice President, Dick Decaires watched the 1st XI victory at Dinton on Saturday. He asked me to pass on the following message:
''What an excellent team performance on Saturday. Each member of the team added something to the victory. Not the best of wickets to score runs on, but we got there in the end. It was fitting, as I slowly made my way to the car, to see the ball go sailing over my head for six and victory. If the team performs like this for the rest of the season, and with a bit of luck, Horspath CC can win the league.
Also I would like to add that I WAS THERE TO SEE KROLLY GET 6 WICKETS. Easy old game."

Krol stars as Horspath surge clear at the top
Mon, 11 Aug 2014, 09:31
From today's Oxford Mail:
Adam Krol’s spell of 6-29 helped Horspath go to the
top of the Division 2 table after a four-wicket win at Dinton
LEFT-ARM spinner Adam Krol returned career-best figures of 6-29 as Horspath gained a tense four-wicket win at Dinton to storm to the top of Division 2.
Bowling with flight and guile and subtle changes of pace, the wily Krol polished off Dinton’s middle and lower order as the hosts slumped to 180 all out after being 158-5. Horspath then got home with an over to spare, and with morning leaders Reading losing by seven wickets at Great & Little Tew, Will Eason’s side have shot 18 points clear of the Berkshire club.
Dinton elected to bat first after winning the toss, but struggled to 63-4 on a slow-paced pitch. Mohson Rana bowled Faisal Ali through the gate with his first ball of the second over, and Joey Todd’s smart legside stumping accounted for fellow opener Ashley Smith off Will Eason, who then got Matthew Renshaw to play on. David Gibson was next to go, courtesy of a good catch over his head by Jimmy Phillips at point off Jamil Faruq.
The hosts rallied after lunch and took the score to 130, before Krol came into the attack and quickly had Philip Arnold caught at long on by Dean Conradie for 36. Tim Brooker was the former captain’s next victim, taken by Faruq on the mid-wicket boundary for 46, before he had Najad Ur-Rehman stumped by Todd. Krol then bowled Kelvin Burrows and Mark Ludlow, before wrapping up the innings when Nheem Amin chipped a delivery to Robbie Eason at mid-wicket.
After the early loss of Todd and Robbie Eason, Shahbaz Ali paced Horspath’s run chase well with a well-crafted 55 off 109 balls, which included five fours. He was well supported firstly by Phillips (35) and then Mark Skelton (39), as Horspath closed in on their target. With four runs needed off the last seven balls, Conradie smashed a delivery from Faisal Ali for six over mid-wicket to clinch the victory in style.

Foster’s demolition job in vain for Horspath
Mon, 04 Aug 2014, 13:35
From today's Oxford Mail:
Pat Foster celebrates having Ashley Hubbert
caught by Andy Wynd
Pat Foster’s latest display of devastating bowling proved in vain for Horspath with heavy rain coming to Great & Little Tew’s rescue in their Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 2 clash at the Recreation Ground. The seamer had claimed four more wickets to help reduce Tew to 45-5 after they had been put in to bat when the game was washed out after just 12.2 overs.
Foster had Ashley Hubbert caught behind by Andy Wynd, before Joe White and Jordan Garrett went to catches by Mark Skelton and Robbie Eason at fourth and third slips respectively.
Mohson Rana then jagged one back to knock over Curtly Slatter’s middle stump.
Foster took his figures to 4-20 by having Lloyd Brock caught by Jimmy Phillips at fifth slip, just seconds before the rain arrived.

Horspath secure victory over Rep XI
Mon, 28 Jul 2014, 13:33
Horspath defeated the Cherwell League Representative side by 11 runs in a 40 over match held as part of the Cherwell Leagues 40th year celebrations.
Horspath opted to bat first and posted 216 for 5. The major contributions coming from Dean Conradie with 65*, Robbie Eason 59 and Steve Green 33. For the rep. side Ross Brown recorded the best figures of 3 - 34.
The rep side looked well on the course for victory at 134 for 2 as Mayho 40 partnered skipper Sam Jones 57, however a tight spell by Dean who only conceded 16 in his eight overs and the return of Graham Beer who added a quick 3 wickets to his previous 2 turned the match Horspath's way. Graham recording the impressive figures of 5 - 32 as the Cherwell's innings closed on 205 - 9

Foster's magnificent seven fires up Horspath
Mon, 28 Jul 2014, 08:12
From today's Oxford Mail:
Pat Foster 7 for 38
Pat Foster’s second seven-wicket haul of the season saw Horspath crush Cove by eight wickets to slash the gap on Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 leaders Reading to just three points. The former Durham MCCU seamer took 7-38 off 24.4 overs to roll over the Farnborough-based hosts for 126.
Cove crashed to 19-5 after choosing to bat first. Foster started the rout by removing Andrew Short and Trent Keep, but only after the pair survived chances off Mohson Rana, Horspath’s seven-wicket hero at Falkland a week earlier. Nicholas Randall was Foster’s third victim, with wicket-keeper Andy Wynd taking a diving catch.
Mark Skelton pouched a chance from Luke Voyce at short cover off Will Eason. Reagan McLean, cousin of West Indies star Nixon McLean, then skied his first ball from Foster to Rana at mid-off. Eason trapped Jake Roylance lbw, before Foster, in his second spell, had Stuart Dee caught at second slip by Joey Todd. Only Najeeb Bashir Malik provided any resistance for Cove with 54 off 113 balls, which included five fours, as Foster and Eason (3-26) polished off the tail.
Todd (49) and Jimmy Phillips, making his third consecutive half-century, with eight fours in his unbeaten 54 from 83 balls, then saw Horspath home.

U-17s lose thriller
Wed, 23 Jul 2014, 05:49
The U-17s lost for the first time this season as hosts Twyford overtook the target of 99 with one ball and 2 wickets remaining.
Horspath's innings got off to the worst possible start with Asad caught behind for 0, and he was quickly followed by Harrison, who was a victim of the unluckiest dismissal when run out backing up. Much rested on the shoulders of Graham Beer and he played an array of powerful shots in his innings of 41 as he compiled a partnership of 49 with Adeel. However, he threw his wicket away and the Horspath innings lost its momentum with the final score of 99 -6 looking below par.
Twyford lost their opener Wilkinson bowled by Graham in a quick opening spell, but neither he nor Asad could remove Archie Bassett [19] or the impressive Henry Sweeny [ 47] who joined in a match winning stand of 67. The stand was broken by Hassan who bowled Bassett, before a fired up Asad returned to take the wickets of Sweeny and Bridgeman both caught behind by Jamie Wells The dangerous Hamish Bassett was superbly caught by Gabriel in Asad's final over for him to finish with 3 - 11.Further wickets fell to the expensive Harrison and two to Adeel leaving Twyford with 6 to win off the final over to be bowled by Adeel. However a run 2 off a no ball put Twyford in the driving seat, and despite Adeel bowling Guider with the third ball, a 2 to Billy Harper off the sixth secured Twyford an exciting victory.

Rana's in seventh heaven for Horspath
Mon, 21 Jul 2014, 15:38
From today's Oxford Mail:
HORSPATH seamer Mohson Rana’s career-best and Home Counties club record figures of 7-31 clinched an emphatic 108-run victory at Falkland in Division 2. Rana’s brilliant bowling at the tree-ringed Newbury venue sent the hosts crashing to 102 all out in reply to Horspath’s 210-8 after the visitors had been put in to bat.
Mohson Rana 7-31
It saw second-placed Horspath strengthen their promotion push as they opened up a 33-point gap over nearest pursuers Shipton-under-Wychwood.
Making the most of the humid conditions, Rana, whose return beat the 7-68 that Pat Foster took for Horspath at Amersham three weeks earlier, got good seam movement off a straw-coloured pitch to rip through the Falkland batting. Skipper Will Eason made the breakthrough when Bruce Martin fell to a juggling catch at point by Kit Cutter. Rana produced a cracking delivery to bowl David Bloor, before trapping former Hampshire all-rounder Hamza Riazuddin lbw first ball. He then removed James Bloodworth, Mark Foster and Theo Cooke to finish his first spell with 5-16, leaving Falkland in disarray at 33-6, and their supporters sat outside the adjoining Bowler’s Arms pub in a gloomy mood.
Craig Williams and Rehan Akram took the score to 70, but Rana returned to have the former caught at short leg. Debutant teenage left-arm seamer Graham Beer bowled Hasnein Akram. Rana claimed his seventh victim by having Rehan Akram caught at mid-off by Mark Skelton, and Adam Krol beat last man Nigel Trumper with a bit of flight to wrap up the victory.
Earlier, Horspath had battled hard to set a challenging total. Jimmy Phillips completed back-to-back half-centuries with six fours in his 55 off 126 balls. That set the stage for Dean Conradie to smash an unbeaten 58 from 44 deliveries.

Horspath through to Tollet Cup Final
Wed, 16 Jul 2014, 13:26
Horspath progressed through to the Oxon[ Tollett] Cup Final last night defeating local rivals Oxford by 5 wickets with two balls to spare.
Oxford won the toss and elected to bat, but with Will only conceding 8 runs in his 4 overs for the wicket of Price Oxford were kept well in check. Mohson continued his fine form with an excellent spell during which he captured the wicket of Ian Crosby whilst only conceding 18. Krolly only conceded 6 of his first three overs, whilst capturing the wickets of Jamie Perkins and John Barrett, before an onslaught by Stuart Laudat saw 15 taken off his fourth.
With the score at only 69 of 14 overs Oxford looked well off the pace. However, New Zealander Mark Beer joined Laudat and immediately upped the tempo. His innings of 39* included 4 sixes. He was particularly severe on Dean who at least had the consolation of taking the wickets of Laudat [43] and Morgan. Oxford's innings ended on 139 - 6 which looked under par.
With a scoring rate of only 7 an over required Kit and Matt O'Connor were able to play themselves in against Price and Beer. They posted an opening partnership of 53 in 8 overs before both fell in quick succession for 26 and 20 respectively. Jimmy,Wyndy and Shab kept the board ticking over before Dean with 26 off 19 balls gave the innings the necessary impetus. When he fell it was left to Will and Millie to see Horspath over the line before a large crowd that were responsible for a record evening bar take.
Horspath defend the trophy, they won for the first time last year, against Shipton at the Witney Mills ground on Sunday 14th September.

Nail biter for U-17s
Tue, 15 Jul 2014, 13:27
The U-15s in the guise of the U-17s secured a narrow victory in a very competitive game against Thame at the Rec last night.
Horspath batted first and once again the batting failed to spark. Asad [21], Adeel[14] and Harrison[13] all made starts without going on to play a major innings. Ryan and Cameron, who played the shot of the night, were left not out at the end as Horspath posted a very average 110 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs, with extras top scoring on 36.
However, once again the Horspath bowling and fielding rose to the challenge. A ferocious opening spell by Asad did not get the reward it deserved and he was well supported by Adeel. Lloyd bowled his customary miserly spell but it was Ryan who broke the opening stand of 60, with Harrison capturing the important wicket of Sutcliffe on 83. Further pressure resulted in Thame requiring 16 to win off the last two overs. An excellent penultimate over by Gabriel in which he conceded only 3 off the bat left 11 required off the last over.Ryan held his nerve to concede only a four and a wide to leave Thame at 106 - 3, four runs short.

From today's Oxford Mail:
Dynamic all-rounder Pat Foster powered Horspath to a seven-wicket win over Finchampstead in Division 2 at the Recreation Ground. The former Durham MCCU seamer took 4-64 as Finchampstead were bowled out for 235 after being put in to bat, before hitting an unbeaten 87 to steer Horspath home. He was well supported in the victory charge by wicket-keeper Andy Wynd, who took five catches for the club for the first time, and then raced to 53 not out in the unbroken 73-run partnership which secured the win.

Pat Foster starred for Horspath in their win against Finchampstead
Foster’s runs came off 113 balls with 13 fours and one six, while Wynd faced 62 balls, hitting 13 fours and one six into the new canopied grandstand. The former Bucks glovesman reached his half-century with a five, courtesy of four overthrows which beat two fielders following a quick single, which also saw Horspath clinch victory. Foster had earlier shared a third-wicket stand of 122 with Jimmy Phillips, who made 50 off 93 balls with five fours and a six before being adjudged lbw to Berkshire off-spinner Harry Stephens.
Foster had led the way with the ball after Finchampstead had made a solid start. He made the breakthrough with the score on 45, accepting a return chance from Max Stevenson, before having Stephens and Matthew Jones (44) caught behind. Foster then took a sharp catch at second slip to dismiss Dan Marles off Mohson Rana, and Finchampstead were 122-5 at lunch after off-spinner Dean Conradie had captain Simon Bell caught at short leg by Kit Cutter.
William Rogers became Foster’s fourth victim. But Andrew House, with an unbeaten 54 off 63 balls with eight fours, continued to defy Horspath before skipper Will Eason, in his second spell, picked up 4-3 off 12 balls to wrap up the innings in quickfire fashion to finish with 4-30.
The win keeps Horspath in second place, 18 points behind leaders Reading.

U-15s Fall in the National
Tue, 08 Jul 2014, 13:32
Horspath u-15s fell in the first National Round of the NatWest Harry Secombe Trophy, losing away on Sunday to the Berkshire champions Finchampstead in a high quality game.
Finchamstead won the toss and had no hesitation in batting. A tremendous opening spell by Asad [4-0 -9-2], in which he dismissed both openers, one bowled and the other by courtesy of an outstanding catch by Jamie Wells gave Horspath a great start. The Finchampstead innings was carefully rebuilt by Eldridge and captain Keiran Brown until both were dismissed by Harrison Ward in an impressive spell [4-0-17-2]. Horspath through Ryan Hicks, Adeel Rehman, Gabriel Michael and Jehan Swaine continued to keep things tight supported by excellent fielding with Liam Smith and Calean Isaac outstanding. Only two boundaries were struck by Finchamstead in their total of 91-7 but with play taking place on the main Finchamstead ground with the boundary full out it was never going to be easy.
It was made an awful lot harder when Asad's prolifiic run in the competition was brought to an end when he was caught behind for 1 in the third over bowled by the outstanding West.
Much now depended on Harrison but he fell for 14 to the leg spin of Woodford. Finchampstead turned the screw with excellent bowling and fielding every bit as good as Horspath's had been. Horspath lacked the firepower to break the shackles although Gabriel struck some hefty blows before being unluckily run out for 11. Horspath's innings ended on 64 - 9.
Congratulations to all the boys who played during the season on a great effort

Belcher rewrites record books with Oxfordshire debut
Mon, 07 Jul 2014, 15:31
From Today's Oxford Mail:
Lloyd Belcher
LLOYD Belcher became Oxfordshire’s youngest player when making his debut in their Western Division clash at Shropshire yesterday. The Horspath spinner, at 15 years and ten days old, claimed two wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 284 at Bridgnorth. Oxfordshire were 94-2 at the close.
Belcher was called up to the side on Friday night after skipper Luke Ryan failed to recover from a neck spasm. His appearance sees the pupil from Marlborough School, Woodstock, break the record held by Lloyd Sabin, who was 16 years and 26 days old when making his debut in 2010. Belcher, who was the third-change bowler, claimed 2-64 off 13 overs, including one maiden.
The left-armer was delighted with his first appearance in Oxfordshire’s senior side.
“I started off a bit nervous with a lot of full tosses, but as I got into more of a rhythm I got some wickets,” Belcher said. “It is a very good standard because it is quite a big step up from anything else I have played, but a lot of fun. “The guys were good and took a lot of pressure of me.”
Belcher’s first wicket – Omar Ali – came courtesy of a stunning diving catch by Jamie Perkin. Perkin was fielding at mid-wicket, but when the ball was hit aerially over his head, he sprinted back and took the effort at full stretch. Belcher added: “It was the best catch I have ever seen.”
His second victim was Gurman Randhawa, who was bowled after attempting a reverse sweep.

Sanklecha haul sees Shipton sink Horspath
Mon, 07 Jul 2014, 15:20
From Today's Oxford Mail:
ANUPAM Sanklecha’s five-wicket haul propelled Shipton-under-Wychwood to a 69-run victory over Horspath in a rain-affected Division 2 match at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.
The Indian seamer has come into his own since the format switched from the limited overs matches to a time game, allowing him to bowl more than the maximum of ten. And the 31-year-old produced another terrific display to pick up 5-56 off 17 overs as second-placed Horspath were dismissed for a paltry 122 in reply to the visitors’ 191 after the hosts elected to field first.
Bowling at a brisk pace, and moving the ball both ways, Sanklecha profited from a loose shot by Robbie Eason to make the early breakthrough for Shipton. Jimmy Phillips was then trapped lbw by George Seacole, and when Sanklecha nipped one back to bowl Shahbaz Ali two balls before tea, Horspath were in big trouble at 22-3.
Seacole claimed his second victim when Mark Skelton was caught at short cover by Simon Hole, before Horspath opener Kit Cutter was joined by Andy Wynd. They took the score to 95, but Wynd then picked out Sanklecha at mid-on off the bowling of Charlie Brain, who then encouraged Dean Conradie to hole out to Tim Senior on the cover boundary.
Sanklecha, having taken 2-39 in his first spell, then returned to polish off Horspath with 3-17 in his second. He beat Mohson Rana with a delivery which kept low, got one to move away and hit Will Eason’s off stump, before having Jamil Faruq caught behind by Jeremy Kirby.
All this time, Cutter had shown tremendous application to try and keep Shipton at bay. Attempting to keep the strike, he played the ball down to short third man for a single. But fittingly it was Sanklecha, who moved smartly to his left, before throwing into wicket-keeper Jeremy Kirby with his right arm to run out last man Lloyd Belcher with 2.1 overs to spare and spark Shipton’s celebrations.
It meant Cutter’s valiant effort, which had seen him carry his bat for an unbeaten 40 off 161 balls, was in vain.
Earlier, a delayed start due to a shower and two further rain breaks had seen the overs reduced to a 49-43 split. But Horspath having had Shipton 56-3 – with Rana taking 1-9 off seven overs – let the visitors get away later in their innings, with dropped catches not helping their cause.
Shaun Cross made 41, before Hole stepped up the pace with 49 off 68 balls, which included three sixes and a four, as Horspath spinners Conradie and Belcher were unable to stem the flow of runs, despite picking up two wickets apiece.

Horspath Progress to Semis
Thu, 03 Jul 2014, 23:46
Horspath progressed through to the semi final of the Bernard Tollett [ Oxon 20/20 County Cup] after securing an eight wicket victory over Aston Rowant tonight. Both teams were much changed from the abandoned match last week.
Horspath won the toss and opted to bowl. In the absence of Pat Foster and Will Eason the bowling was opened by Millie Faruk and Jehan Mohammed, and it was Jehan who captured the important wicket of Wes Morrick. Richard Cook went on the attack and plundered a quick 52 as Aston Rowant looked well placed at 96 - 2 off the first ten overs. However his departure saw the Horspath bowlers regain control and slow the scoring rate.
All the bowlers returned impressive figures with Millie the most successful with 3 - 25. Graham Beer captured two for 21,and Dean recovered well from conceding 21 off his first over to take 2 for 8 off his next three whilst Krolly was at his best taking 2 for 11 in his miserly 4 over spell.
Robbie Eason 66 not out
After the early loss of Luke Finch, acting captain Robbie Eason and Kit Cutter combined superbly in a well paced second wicket stand of 110. Kit fell to Adam Muttit for 46 just before the end. Shahbaz joined Robbie, who carried his bat for 66*, to see Horspath home in 18.2 overs
Horspath now meet Oxford next Tuesday evening at the Rec.

Faruq's fireworks snatch victory for Horspath after epic Foster spell
Mon, 30 Jun 2014, 13:52
From today's Oxford Mail:
Paceman Pat Foster’s superb seven-wicket haul set Horspath up for a thrilling one-wicket win at Amersham in Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 2, with big-hitting tail-ender Jamil Faruq clinching victory in spectacular fashion.
The picturesque Shardeloes ground – complete with a marquee for a wedding reception – miraculously escaped the torrential downpours which wiped out the rest of the Home Counties programme. And Horspath made the most of winning the toss in seamer-friendly conditions by dismissing the hosts for 140.
Bowling unchanged, Foster took 7-68 from 22.5 overs – a club record for the league, surpassing the 6-51 left-arm spinner Lloyd Belcher picked up at Reading two weeks previously.
Horspath then pulled victory out of the fire in incredible fashion with Faruq the hero at the death after they had been reduced to 125-9. Employing an admirable do-or-die approach, he smashed an unbeaten 20 off seven balls, with two massive straight sixes into a neighbouring field off the first four deliveries of what in all likelihood, with time running out, would have been the penultimate over bowled by South African left-arm spinner Stephano Joubert.
Horspath had earlier produced an excellent display in the field. Amersham reached 42-0 before skipper Will Eason made the breakthrough by trapping Bruce Friedrichs lbw. Two short rain breaks saw the match reduced to a 49-44 overs split, with Amersham’s other opener, Rob Viney, falling to a brilliant one-handed catch by Jimmy Phillips at cover off Foster. Eason then won his second lbw decision to dismiss Joubert, before Chris Cann was bowled, shouldering arms to Foster.
Foster, getting good seam movement off the pitch, and Eason (3-51) were supported by some terrific catching as the Amersham wickets continued to fall. Shahbaz Ali pulled off a diving one-handed effort at mid-off, and Dean Conradie, ahead of a trip to see his cousin playing at Glastonbury, showed safe hands on two occasions as Amersham were all out for 140 off 44.5 overs.
In reply, Horspath were soon in trouble at 6-2 with openers Robbie Eason and debutant Luke Finch perishing. But Phillips and Ali took the score to 57, before the former was stumped off Joubert just after hitting him for a straight six to cap a fluent 43 off 59 balls. That was the first of five wickets to fall for 23 runs as Horspath slumped to 80-7, and when Ali was bowled by Joubert attempting a reverse sweep for 32 off 112 balls, Amersham sensed victory.
Their hopes increased when Foster was adjudged lbw to Alex Lines (4-44), but they hadn’t counted on Faruq’s fireworks, which gave Horspath a remarkable win and their first on opposition territory. It also saw them close the gap on leaders Reading to 11 points.

U-13 get off the mark
Mon, 30 Jun 2014, 13:40
After two losses, the U-13s secured their first victory of the league season when they defeated Tiddington by five wickets on Sunday.
As usual the bowling was a mixed bag with Kartik Tite probably the pick of the eight bowlers used. The Tiddington innings was dominated by the Elliott brothers but once they had departed the innings slowed and only the 24 wides and no balls conceded helped the score along to 94 - 4.
In replyHorspath turned in easily their best batting performance of the season to date to ease to victory. The innings got off to an excellent start with stand in skipper Alec Cooke [15] and Archie Hudson also with 15 playing some fine shots. The foundation they built was continued by Jenson Wright who peppered the leg side boundary before falling for 29. Kartik and Joseph Bowley carried on the good work before Simon White, with a couple of excellent boundaries, saw Horspath home for the loss of 5 wickets

U15s are County Champions
Fri, 27 Jun 2014, 23:08
Horspath U15s became County champions after defeating Banbury by 9 wickets at Banbury tonight. Although the margin of victory seems large that did not reflect how close the game was with Horspath only getting home with three balls to spare in a match reduced to 18 overs a side.
Once again captain Asad Rafiq led from the front with a match winning performance.
Captain - Asad Rafiq
His fiery opening spell saw him bowl his four overs for only five runs, and capture the big wickets of Clark and Eyles. Adeel Rehman with a spell of 4 overs for 17 kept things tight at the other end, and the introduction of Lloyd Belcher put further pressure on the Banbury batsman. He picked up the wickets of Michelmore and Tait for 15 runs in his 4 overs.Whilst wickets were falling at the other end Will Hawtin was holding the fort and he steadily increased the tempo of his innings to finish on 42*. There was a wicket for Gabriel Michaels and two run outs in Ryan Hick's final over as Banbury's innings ended on 87 for 7.
Horspath didn't find the scoring of runs any easier as Asad and Harrison Ward set about securing the victory. After eight overs the score stood at 28 with the rate up to 6 an over. However a blitz of boundaries from Asad put Horspath in the driving seat and when he was finally caught on the long off boundary for 41 only 28 were required. Harrison23* and Lloyd 11*calmly went about the business of acquiring the runs needed, even if some of the supporters were not quite as calm, as Banbury fought hard to the end.
U15 County Champions
Well done to all the team who have all paid a part in the team's undefeated run to winning the cup.
Horspath now go on to represent Oxfordshire in the national competition and will play the Berkshire champions away next Sunday

U11s just miss out in cracker at Aston Rowant
Fri, 27 Jun 2014, 22:37
The u11s played an absolute blinder tonight and only just lost out (on the very final ball) to a good Rowant team. Horspath batted first and scored 74 for 6 from their 20 overs; Tejas again contributing a composed 26 not out and Charlie adding a quick 17.
Horspath bowled very well (all 10 bowlers getting a go) and restricted ROWANT to keep them beneath the required run rate for most of their innings. However, as ROWANT got closer to the necessary total, Horspath fought and fought and kept tightening the screw. Wickets fell regularly and run outs were taken to take the game to the final over. The home team needed every single ball to score the 75 needed and just squeezed home in the final ball of the innings. Horspath's bowling was uniformly tight with Owais Hussain particularly impressive with 2-2 from 3.

U11s dev winning streak comes to an end
Tue, 24 Jun 2014, 22:12
Horspath's u11s development side lost their first game of the season tonight as they went down to Kidlington by 1 run. After scoring 173 runs, including a majestic 46 from Thor Henriksen from 4 overs, Horspath's abundance of extras in their bowling meant Kidlington pulled off the victory. Despite scoring 50 fewer runs off the bat than Horspath Kidlington could still claim the win as our boys learned a lot about the importance of bowling the right line and fielding with concentration. Jack Barron was the best bowler with 2 for 9.

U-15s through to Final
Mon, 23 Jun 2014, 22:44
An excellent performance in the field paved the way to a nine wicket win against Oxford Downs in the semi final of the Dennis Swanton Trophy. Good ground fielding and fine catches by Adeel Rehman, Caelan Isaac and Jehan Swaine, plus a cool piece of wicket keepiing by Jamie Wells in running out the dangerous Alex Ling backed up the bowling. The wickets were shared between Lloyd and Adeel with two each, and one each for Ryan, Gabriel, and Asad. The Downs totaled 83 - 9 from their 20 overs.
With the wicket not easy Asad and Lloyd were very circumspect when Horspath began their reply. Their first wicket stand of 43 was ended when Lloyd played around a straight one for 10. The prolific Asad continued his outstanding run of form with a not out 38 as he and Adeel, assisted by extras, saw Horspath through to 84 - 1 in 15.1 overs.
Horspath play Banbury in the Final on Friday night 6.00 start on the Banbury XX Ground. The winners will go on to represent Oxon in the National U-15 competition

Eason and Phillips sparkle to take Horspath second
Mon, 23 Jun 2014, 16:29
From today's Oxford Mail:
Robbie Eason and Jimmy Phillips hit half-centuries as Horspath beat Chesham by seven wickets to regain the winning thread and go second in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2. Chasing Chesham’s 218-9 after the visitors had won the toss and decided to bat, Horspath eased home with plenty of time to spare.

Horspath paceman Pat Foster shouts unsuccessfully for lbw against Chesham opener Andy Goddard with skipper Will Eason in the background joining in
Eason led the way with 64 before being run out by a direct hit from fine leg to the bowler’s end as he went for a second. His runs came off 107 balls, with nine fours and two straight sixes.
Left-hander Phillips then maintained the momentum. After a steady start, he blossomed with some classy boundaries, making 62 from 90 balls with nine fours and a six, before he was caught at point off Matt Rance. It was then left to Shahbaz Ali to steer Horspath home with an unbeaten 37, which included seven fours, before Andy Wynd hit the winning boundary.
Earlier, Horspath, whose run chase was aided by 26 byes, had produced a good display in the field to hold Chesham in check. Fiery Pat Foster spearheaded the home attack with 3-60, while skipper Will Eason took the important wicket of University of New South Wales all-rounder James Day, courtesy of a smart offside stumping by Andy Wynd.
Stand-in skipper Barnaby Atkins made a patient 54 at the top of the order off 121 balls with six fours, while Matt Rance hit a fluent 51 from 60 balls with eight fours. But Jamil Faruq and Lloyd Belcher picked up two wickets apiece, and South African Dean Conradie showed the benefit of some intensive work in the nets with former Oxfordshire off-spinner Paul Jeacock to produce his best spell for several weeks, taking 1-13 off five overs.
Horspath skipper Will Eason flicks the ball on to the stumps, but the Chesham batsman stands his ground and umpire Don Brooks gives not out

Belcher, 14, takes 6 Reading wickets for Horspath
Mon, 16 Jun 2014, 07:45
From today's Oxford Mail:
Teenager Lloyd Belcher returned Horspath’s best league figures with 6-51, but it wasn't enough to stop leaders Reading claiming a two-wicket win in their rain-affected Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 2 top-of-the-table clash.
Teenager Lloyd Belcher returned Horspath’s best league figures with 6-51, but it wasn't enough to stop leaders Reading claiming a two-wicket win in their rain-affected Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 2 top-of-the-table clash.
Lloyd Belcher 6-51
The 14-year-old left-arm spinner’s superb spell gave the hosts an almighty scare before they overhauled Horspath's 130-7 with 11 balls to spare. His figures bettered the 5-27 off-spinner Paul Jeacock picked up against the same opposition three years ago. And it is believed he may also be the youngest bowler to return a five-wicket haul in Home Counties cricket.
Reading, who won the toss and put the visitors in to bat, appeared to be coasting to victory at 71-1 as opener Praful Waghela led the way. But Belcher's introduction into the attack sparked a dramatic collapse. Bowling with good flight and getting plenty of turn from a poor pitch he reduced Reading to 102-7. His victims included the left-handed Waghela, who has played first-class cricket for Mumbai, for 45, caught by Robbie Eason at mid-off, while he also combined with wicket-keeper Andy Wynd to dismiss three other Reading batsmen. Belcher’s efforts were all the more remarkable as he had been ill in the morning, but he tired later in his 13.1-over spell and the ninth-wicket pair of Tom Fray and Simon Andersson saw jittery Reading home.
The start of the match had been delayed to allow the ground to dry out following Friday night’s thunder-storm, and a shower before lunch saw the match further reduced to 87 overs, with a 46-41 split.
Horspath found it hard going with off-spinners Kashif Masim (4-49) and Khalid Malik getting the ball to explode off the surface. And it was only a late flurry from Wynd, with an unbeaten 30 off 33 balls including a huge six over long on, and Jamil Faruq, with 14 not out from six deliveries, that allowed them to post their final total.
Horspath dropped from second to fifth as a result of this defeat

Adrian Manger - 60 Not Out
Wed, 11 Jun 2014, 16:04
Adrian Manger, former ‘Path Club Captain, reaches another notable milestone shortly. To mark the occasion, he is organising a match between Tiddington CC (1995) and Oxfordshire 50+ (2008). The game is being held on Friday 20th June at Tiddington, starting at 2pm. All are welcome to watch the game and join him for a BBQ and after-match drinks.
In Adrian’s own words….
"As my current Horspath CC team mates will confirm, its not often these days I get chance to hit 60, but as luck would have it I reach that landmark this year. Hence, my idea to get the two teams I had the privilege of playing with in Lords finals to play each other by way of a celebration in or around my birthday (16th June).
Tiddington have kindly offered to host the game, Robin Pykett and Andrew-Wingfield Digby are lined up to skipper their two sides again and we've decided to go for a Friday afternoon 20th June, 2pm start in the hope it's close enough to the weekend for people to be able to make it to play and be able to stay on after-match to socialise and reminisce.
I've got a very good response so far (even got Pete Green promising to find some cricket kit!!) and the squads are just about complete. In recognition of the 50+ side's notable absentee donations in lieu of match fees, and a little more fund raising on the day, will to go to the Phil Garner Fund of the Brain Tumour Charity.”

Dean Leads The Way
Tue, 10 Jun 2014, 22:07
A fine performance by Dean Conradie led the way as Horspath began their defence of the Bernard Tollett Oxon Cup with what turned out in the end to be a comfortable seven wicket win away against Tiddington.
Tiddington opted to bat first on winning the toss but only Australian Tom Rowley was comfortable on a slow wicket that suited the Horspath spinners. He compiled an excellent 54, whilst only Geoff Higgs with 10 reached double figures at the other end. He was eventually bowled by Dean who claimed a further 2 wickets to finish with 3 for 11. Krolly was the most successful bowler with 4 for 29, whilst tidy figures of 1-22,0-15 & 0-22 were returned by Will,Millie and Lloyd respectively as Tiddington were bowled out at the end of the 19th over for 110.
With less than a run a ball required Horspath were not required to take any risks and a fine partnership of 45 between Dean 29* and Shahbaz 21* settled the game after Kit 31 and Robbie 20 set the innings on its course.
Horspath will entertain Aston Rowant in the next round on 24th June.

Shahbaz Ali leads Horspath to remarkable victory
Mon, 09 Jun 2014, 13:57
From Today's Oxford Mail:
Dean Conradie
Horspath left Dinton shell-shocked with an awesome display of explosive batting to pull off an unlikely three-wicket win at the Recreation Ground and go second in Division 2 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.
Shahbaz Ali was the catalyst for the thrilling success with a superb 55 as Horspath chased down Dinton’s 215-9 in a match reduced to 34 overs a side following heavy morning rain.
The hosts looked up against it as they reached the last five overs still needing 65 to win. But Ali and South African Dean Conradie then launched a ferocious assault.
Ali’s terrific innings, which came off 49 balls and included two fours and four sixes, came to an end when he skied a catch to Horspath’s former overseas player, Alister Gibbins, at cover off the last ball of the 31st over to make it 185-7.
But Conradie, who blasted 29 off 12 balls with two sixes, and Jamil Faruq, with 15 off nine deliveries, continued the fireworks. And Conradie, who had earlier conceded 25 runs from his two overs, hit the winning boundary through mid-wicket off the first ball of the last over, bowled by Braintree Town footballer Alan Massey to complete a remarkable win.
Horspath had been set on their way by a well-crafted 50 from opener Robbie Eason, whose runs came off 70 balls and included six fours. His innings also featured a moment of controversy when it appeared a Dinton fielder stepped over the rope when attempting to take a catch, with two runs rather than a six being scored.
Earlier, Dinton’s innings had also seen some big hitting after the visitors were put in to bat as the game got under way at 2.30pm.
Najam Ur-Rehmann rode his luck to make 68 off 67 balls with four fours and three sixes, while Mark Ludlow smashed a blistering 64 from 37 deliveries with five fours and four sixes. The game produced 19 sixes in all.
Skipper Will Eason was the pick of the attack for Horspath, who were awarded five runs at the start of their reply for Dinton’s batsmen repeatedly running on the pitch, despite several warnings.

U11s development side win again
Tue, 03 Jun 2014, 23:27
Horspath u11s dev side made it 2 from 2 tonight as they comprehensively beat Oxford in the pairs format of the game.
Batting first, HORSPATH chalked up a decent score of 186 with Thomas Marsh chief contributor, scoring 18 runs.
Oxford's response never really got going as all the Horspath bowlers found a decent line and length and 4 players each claimed at least 2 wickets (Luke, Alfie, Josh & Charlie). Luke was the pick of the bunch with 3-8 from his 2 overs.
Another solid team performance which resulted in another convincing victory.

5 out of 5 for U-15s
Tue, 03 Jun 2014, 13:30
Horspath secured their fifth successive win after securing a 73 run victory away at Tiddington last night. After being asked to bat first the Horspath openers Asad Rafiq and Harrison Ward gave the innings an explosive start as both secured their 50s by the half way stage, with Asad’s 50 including 6 fours and 2 sixes, and Harrison's 5 fours and 2 sixes, including one huge hit on to the roof of a neighbouring house. The rest of the Horspath innings was disappointing as six wickets fell for the addition of a further 36 runs.
Tiddington's innings got off to a bright start but the early introduction of the spin of Lloyd Belcher [3 overs for 2 runs] and Harrison [ 2 for 15 of 4] slowed the scoring rate and broke the opening partnership. However the fireworks didn't really start until the left arm seam of Ryan Hicks joined the attack. He clean bowled the two prize batsmen Max and Ben Smith with his first and third balls and went on to secure a further three wickets to return the remarkable figures of 5 for 2 from his 4 overs. There was time for Jehan Swaine and Cameron Homer to combine for the eighth wicket as Tiddington's innings ended on 63 for 8.

Woods leads way as Tew claim derby spoils
Mon, 02 Jun 2014, 19:16
From today’s Oxford Mail:
Horspath’s Will Eason bowled a miserly spell of 1-11 off nine overs during their 55-run
defeat at Oxfordshire rivals Great & Little Tew on Saturday
Great & Little Tew’s bowlers ripped through Horspath’s batting to secure a 55-run home victory in Division 2 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League on Saturday.
With the match being reduced to 45 overs a side after the start was delayed until 12.40pm to give the ground time to dry out, Tew were put in to bat after losing the toss. Not surprisingly, the hosts found runs hard to come by with Horspath skipper Will Eason conceding just 11 runs from his nine overs while picking up the wicket of Jordan Garrett.
But Joe White and Harry Smith stood firm to put together what proved to be a match-winning partnership of 76 for the second wicket. Their cause was helped by an 11-ball over littered with wides from Mark Skelton, which helped release the pressure.
Fourteen-year-old left arm spinner Lloyd Belcher ended their stand, having White caught by Robbie Eason at long off for 38 to make it 95-2. Shahbaz Ali then returned for a fiery second spell, bowling in tandem with the youngster and they proceeded to work their way through the Tew order. Ali bowled Curtly Slatter and then had Smith caught behind by Andy Wynd for an excellent 52 off 68 balls, with three fours and two sixes. But the lower order offered little resistance as Ali finished with 5-46 and Belcher, showing maturity beyond his years, picked up 4-21 off nine overs as Tew were bowled out for 171.
However, Horspath’s hopes of victory were soon in tatters, thanks to an inspired opening burst by Matt Woods, who took 3-16 from his nine overs. He pulled off brilliant one-handed caught and bowled dismissals to remove both openers Robbie Eason and Skelton. With Lloyd Brock (2-17) and Robbie Shurmer (3-25) also also getting in on the act, Horspath collapsed to 43-7.
Will Eason and Kit Cutter, batting with a runner after pulling a hamstring while fielding, helped salvage some respectability for the visitors. But there was no way back as Horspath were bowled out for 116 to leave Tew convincing winners as they climbed up to second place in the table as the visitors dropped to seventh.

Majestic Max opens Horspath clubhouse
Thu, 29 May 2014, 15:38
From Wednesday's Oxford Mail:
Horspath celebrated the grand opening of their new clubroom on Saturday night. Club stalwart and secretary Max Eason, known for his majestic square cuts during his playing days, performed a different cut by snipping the ribbon to cheers from around 100 members.
The impressive new building is the result of five months of voluntary work by club members and villagers, with chairman Peter Walker at the forefront.
Eason said: “This project owes everything to him. It is his inspiration and he has galvanised people to do it.”
Walker was pleased to see the off field facilities now matching what the players were doing on the field. He commented: “Horspath has been considered to be one of the most professional teams in the league, and has gone from strength to strength year in year out, and has kept going forward. The one thing they have never had is facilities just as professional off the field, and hopefully now the club has delivered it. It is an absolutely fantastic clubroom, and several people from other clubs have turned up and said it is absolutely brilliant what you have done.”

U9s overpower Didcot

Didcot U9s v Horspath U9s 21/05/2014
Horspath batted first reaching a superb 291 for 5 with Saif Dogar top scoring with 14 . Didcots reply was curtailed by excellent bowling resulting in the fall of 11 wkts for 237 runs, Freddie Robertson taking 2 wkts . The most pleasing aspect of the match was the excellent fielding by Horspath resulting in two stunning catches by George Crawford and Freddie Robertson [caught and bowled] and several long range throws resulting in run outs. Keep up the good work boys and girls: it's paying dividends.

U11s begin the season with a victory over the MP sports academy
Wed, 21 May 2014, 23:40
Horspath's boys returned home from Towersey with a convincing victory in the bag. The home team won the toss and elected to bat. Horspath's bowlers (all 10 players bowled 2 overs each) put in a great team effort to restrict MP to a total of 57-2 from their 20 overs.
Joe Gibbs got 2 wickets for 1 run and Luke Heritage achieved figures of 2-5.
The Horspath batsmen made short work of their target, winning by 8 wickets with 7 overs left in the bank. Tejas Anand compiled a lovely innings of poise and composure to chalk up 25 not out to bring about the win.

U-15's Run Continues
Tue, 20 May 2014, 13:44
Horspath U-15s made it four wins out of four as they made short work of Oxford at home last night. Oxford won the toss and batted, making a bright start against the Horspath seamers despite both Adeel and Asad taking a wicket apiece. However the introduction of the spin of Lloyd Belcher and Harrison Ward brought about a rapid fall of wickets. Lloyd taking 3 - 8 off his four overs and Harrison 2 - 6 off his four. Gabriel Michaels chipped in with 2 wickets of eight balls with Caelan Isaac collecting the tenth with a direct hit run out as Oxford were all out for 55
Horspath's two inform batsmen, captain Asad Rafiq and Harrison, made short work of the 56 required with an array of powerful shots as Horspath passed the total during the eighth over.

Horspath in a hurry to thump Falkland
Mon, 19 May 2014, 12:59
From today's Oxford Mail:
A terrific bowling display saw Horspath send Falkland crashing to 68 all out at the Recreation Ground to set up their first win since returning to Home Counties Premier League Division 2. However, the triumph wasn't achieved without a scare as Horspath slumped to 19-4 in reply before securing victory without further loss.
Horspath skipper Will Eason put the Newbury-based visitors in to bat after winning the toss, and Pat Foster triggered a dramatic collapse by having opener Daniel Williams caught at square leg in the third over. Eason trapped James Bloodworth lbw, and then Dean Conradie struck the crucial blow by running out former Hampshire all-rounder Hamza Riazuddin from cover after he was called for a quick single by skipper Bruce Martin.
It was a steady procession after that with Mark Skelton (3-13) going agonisingly close to claiming a hat-trick, having Mark Foster and Nigel Trumper caught by Foster at second slip off consecutive balls, before wicket-keeper Andy Wynd dropped a straightforward chance off George Trewby.
However, that was the only blemish in the field with Foster (3-18) having Ian Slatcher caught at second slip by Will Eason to wrap up the innings inside 27 overs.
But Horspath then got a taste of their own medicine with Riazuddin (3-24) ripping through their top order, before Jehan Mohammed and Foster saw them home off 14.5 overs, with victory secured at 2.40pm

U11s Dev begin the season in style
Sat, 17 May 2014, 21:38
The u11s development side began the season in fine style, seeing off a much bigger outfit in the shape of Bicester and North Oxford. Horspath posted a score of 145 (Luke Heritage and Charlie Turner top scoring) and the visitors briefly threatened a challenge. However, a late flurry of wickets (Alfie Turner taking 3 wickets for 2 runs) saw Horspath claim the victory spoils. The bowling and fielding were particularly impressive as the boys began their campaign with a good result.

Cutter cracks half-century on Horspath Debut
Mon, 12 May 2014, 14:45
From today's Oxford Mail:
Kit Cutter hit a half-century on his Division 2 debut for Horspath before their game at Finchampstead was abandoned with the match evenly poised.
Kit Cutter hit a half-century on his Division 2 debut for Horspath before their game at Finchampstead was abandoned with the match evenly poised.
Kit Cutter - 52
The stand-in opener made a composed 52 off 116 balls as Horspath posted 177-8 from 46 overs after being put in to bat, with their innings being shortened by four overs due to a rain break. Cutter, who survived a couple of chances, was well supported by skipper Will Eason (42) and Andy Wynd with a late flurry against an accurate Finchampstead attack spearheaded by towering New Zealander Tipene Friday (3-26).
Berkshire all-rounder Harry Stephens took 1-22 off his ten overs of off-spin, together with four catches.
With Horspath’s innings being curtailed, it brought the Duckworth/Lewis Method into play, with Finchampstead set a revised target of 185 off 46 overs.
A further rain break saw this amended to 151 from 30 overs, and they had reached 73-2 off 17 overs with Stephens 43 not out when the ground was hit by a further downpour. With water lying on the square, and 20 overs needing to be bowled to constitute a game, the umpires ruled there was insufficient time to restart the game, and declared it abandoned.

Village Cup Weekend
Fri 25th April 2014
If the weather relents the season goes up another gear with two top fixtures over the weekend, which follow on from another narrow defeat against Plumtree. The game featured three outstanding spells from the seam bowlers Pat, Shahbaz and Skelly but the spinners suffered at the hands of Ben Thompson and a short boundary one side. The batting looked in good shape with Will, Shahbaz , Dean, Luke and Jehan all in the runs. On Monday Horspath preserved their unbeaten home record against international opposition with a victory over a gallant French side Mansle
Pat Foster leads the 1st X1 at Banbury which includes Adam Krol for his first outing this year. He will also feature in the first round National Village Cup match at home against Great Tew on the Sunday 1.00pm start. After a successful return with the bat against Plumtree Will Eason will captain the Village Cup side which will also see the welcome seasonal debut of Jimmy Phillips. With Pat, Dean and Ayaz all ineligible for differing reasons, and Mase and Jeaky unfit, Graham Beer is included and rewarded for his excellent pre- season form.
Andy Cummings leads a strong 2nd XI against Banbury 2nds at home, which reflects the strength in depth at the Club. The fixture provides an excellent opportunity for those players to push for first team places
Visitors to the Rec this weekend are reminded that there is a large motor cycle rally being held at the complex over the weekend so parking is not straight forward. We shall be reserving an area on the periphery of the second ground to the left of the cycle speedway track if, as expected, the usual parking spaces are not available.

With Will Eason having suffered a relapse to his foot injury after playing in the Indoor Finals last Friday, Pat Foster returns to captain the side. Also coming into the team are Shahbaz Ali, Andy Wynd, Lloyd Belcher and Steve Green.
With a substantial number of players and supporters staying in Nottingham on Saturday night there is no game on Sunday although the bar will be open.
On Monday Horspath have an international fixture as they welcome the French side Mansle to the Club. This will take the form of two 20/20 games with the first commencing at 12.00

We extend a warm welcome to the Club to Dean Conradie. He comes via Christian Brothers College Old Boys CC, who play in the Northerns Premier League in Pretoria. He is a team mate of Garth Davson who is extremely well known to the Horspath bowlers, and has recommended Dean to us. Dean is an off spinning all rounder who is coming off a very successful domestic season. He will also be a very influential part of our coaching team with particular emphasis on the Youth section to which he will bring his experience of coaching in Pretoria’s primary schools. We wish him every success and are sure to make his time with us memorable.
We extend an equally warm welcome to two other debutants who are better known to us.
Luke Finch, son of John, joins from Oxford and will be pushing hard for a batting spot. He is a fine prospect who played one of the better innings against us last season and who is sure, like others, to benefit from Dean Holmes’s Tuesday sessions.
Ayaz Khan has been a feature of the President’s side in the Feast for a number of years. The last person to take all ten wickets in a Cherwell League match and a devastating batsman on his day, as we have known to our cost in the past.
If one adds into the mix those players who are unable to play on Saturday, either through injury or playing other sports, which include five regulars from last season’s team, the competition for places is going to be stronger than ever this season.
