Healey hits brilliant century as Horspath 3rd post first victory

PETE Healey hammered a superb unbeaten century as Horspath 3rd staged a brilliant run chase to record their first win of the season in Cherwell League Division 3A with a seven-wicket victory at home to Wolverton Town.

Faced with the visitors' 255-6 from 50 overs after putting them in to bat, Healey hit 112 not out from 100 balls to steer Horspath home at 256-3 with eight overs to spare.

Batting at No 4, his terrific ton included 16 fours and one six as he shared a match-winning fourth-wicket stand with Mohson Rana, who made an unbeaten 43 from 40 deliveries, after Jonty Hedges had weighed in with 49.

Andy Cummings had earlier produced a stunning spell of 3-8 off 10 overs - including six maidens - to leave Wolverton in early trouble. But Sean Potter turned the innings round, making an excellent 118 off 130 balls, with 18 fours and two sixes

Opener Asad Mahmood (49) provided good support, before Ben Boddy made an unbeaten 59. Alex Jackson took 2-56, while Faiz Idris picked up 1-39 from his 10 overs, before Horspath's stunning run chase saw the side get off the mark under new skipper Ryan Hicks.

Horspath 4th went down to a seven-wicket defeat at Clifton Hampden in Division 5C.

The visitors posted 177-9 after being put in to bat, with Abubakar Khan (38) and Peter Wheeler (36) batting well for the second wicket before the innings fell away.

Laurence Harvey (2-19), Darren Clark (2-20) and Lawson Harvey (2-22) were the main beneficiaries for the home side.

Openers Richard Beard (50) and Mark Stanway (47) then laid the foundations for Clifton to reach 179-3, before Ben Quirk (32no) secured victory with 4.4 overs to spare. Muhammad Dogar (2-28) and Adrian Manger (1-30) both produced tidy nine-over spells for Horspath.
