Jehan hits brilliant ton in Horspath's Village Cup win

JEHAN Mohammed hit a brilliant unbeaten century as Horspath recorded a resounding 127-run victory at Great & Little Tew in the Voneus Village Cup first round.

Jehan Mohammed walks off after making
a sparkling unbeaten 124
Mohammed starred with 124 not out off 84 balls to take Horspath - winners of the Oxfordshire Group last season - to 251-7 off their 40 overs after electing to bat.

Particularly strong with the cut and pull shots, his terrific ton included 11 fours and five sixes. Amin Rafiq provided good support with 31.

Horspath's bowlers then shared the wickets as Tew fell to 124 all out. Off-spinner Luke Heritage picked up 2-9, while skipper Patrick Foster took 2-12 and Max Smith bowled with good pace to return figures of 2-16.

The highlight of Horspath's display in the field, though, was Robbie Eason's spectacular catch on the mid-wicket boundary off Hayden Moon's bowling.

Eason stuck up his right hand to catch the ball just inside the rope as it was going for six. Realising he was about to step over the line, he threw it up in the air before returning to the field of play to complete the catch with the same hand.

Now Horspath are away to Aston Rowant, who beat Shipton-under-Wychwood by 7 wickets, in the second round on May 8.

Mohammed had shone with the ball the previous day, taking 4-16 in Horspath's 114-run friendly defeat by Oxford at the Oxford University Press Sports Ground.

His haul included the free-scoring Marcus Campopiano (63) and skipper Muhammad Ayub (51) as Oxford made 267-7 from their 45 overs after choosing to bat. Openers Elliot Mathews (51) and Vishane Perera (50) also made half-centuries for the hosts in a first-wicket stand of 111.

Tom Coleman made 59 off 82 balls at the top of the Horspath order, before the visitors collapsed to 153 all out with the last eight wickets going down for just 28 runs.

Coleman's knock included four fours and a six, but Max Smith (29) was the only other batsman to provide any resistance with George Tait (5-15) the chief destroyer.

Horspath 2nd went down by 129 runs to Oxford 2nd in their friendly at the Marston Road Sports Ground. The visitors were restricted to 132-9 in pursuit of Oxford's 261-6 after the home side had elected to bat.
