Horspath chase silverware in Oxfordshire Under 19 final

HORSPATH will be chasing silverware when they host Aston Rowant in the much-delayed 2020 Oxfordshire Under 19 final at the Recreation Ground on Sunday (1.30).

Trophy bid
Finals day - held over from last year due to the coronavirus pandemic - was due to take place in July only to be washed out.

But now the two sides are set to battle it out for the Honey B Trophy in memory of the late Horspath player Morris Honey.

In their rearranged semi-final held last month, Horspath made home advantage count to run out comfortable 42-run winners over Hook Norton.

Alfie Turner smashed 60 off 38 balls and skipper Tejas Anand hammered 44 from 31 deliveries to get the hosts off to a terrific start after they chose to bat.

They set Horspath on the way to a formidable 171-5 off a reduced 16 overs given the shortened August daylight hours.

Josh Richardson cracked 24 off 13 balls and Charlie Turner blasted 18 from 11 deliveries to keep the runs flowing, while Fraser Lovat (2-21) was the pick of the Hook Norton bowlers.

Josh Cummings (2-15) then produced a fine four-over spell to make early inroads into the Hook Norton batting, before Joe Gibbs (2-16) and Josh Richardson (2-30) picked up wickets. Chris Batten took 2-1 in the last over to polish the visitors off for 129, despite Max Harris top scoring with 29.

Meanwhile, Horspath's senior teams bring the curtain down on their league campaigns on Saturday.

The 1st XI are at home to Wokingham in Home Counties Premier League Division 2, while the 2nd XI travel to Shipton-under-Wychwood in Cherwell League Division 2. The 3rd XI entertain Westcott in Division 4A and the 4th XI visit Garsington & Cowley 2nd in Division 6B.

The end-of-season is to be celebrated with a Caribbean-themed evening with players and supporters encouraged to wear 'loud' shirts. Rum punch will be available with music and food. All culinary contributions will be much appreciated.
