Green's one-man show proves in vain for Horspath 2nd

HORSPATH 2nd's Stephen Green attempted to hold Bicester & North Oxford at bay single-handed before the visitors scrambled a tense two-wicket win in Cherwell League Division 2 at the Recreation Ground.

Stephen Green hit 68 off 63 balls
Green made 68 out of Horspath's 96 all out after they had elected to bat with Ben Clark's swing bowling doing the damage as he returned league-best figures of 7-35.

Horspath were soon in trouble at 9-4, but Green played fluently with his 63-ball knock including 11 fours and two sixes, before he was the last man out with the innings completed inside 27 overs.

However, Horspath made promotion-chasing Bicester fight hard for the runs. The visitors stumbled to 65-5 with Max Smith (2-13), Jehan Mohammed (2-31) and Asad Rafiq (1-18) bowling tight spells.

Off-spinner Alfie Turner then took 3-12 - including the wicket of top-scorer Griffin McComb (26) - as the jitters set in for Bicester, and at 87-8 Horspath suddenly sensed the chance of the most unlikeliest of wins.

But Ben and Daniel Clark saw the visitors - who were aided by 31 extras - home at 100-8 in a nail-biting finish in the 46th over.
