O'Connor leads the way in Horspath 2nd's run feast

HORSPATH 2nd's batsmen rattled up a massive 318-5 to set up an emphatic 178-run victory over Wolverton Town in Cherwell League Division 2 at the Recreation Ground. 

Opener Dom O'Connor led the way with 81 off 98 balls, which included 11 fours and a six, after the home side chose to bat first. He shared a third-wicket stand of 115 with Josh Richardson, who made an impressive 54 from 65 deliveries with nine fours.

Graham Beer kept up the run spree with seven boundaries in an unbeaten 55 from 53 balls, while Tyrone Eyles weighed in with 33. 

It was the club's second highest total in the league, beaten only by the 346-5 the 4th XI amassed at Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd last season. 

Beer completed a fine all-round effort with 4-36 as Wolverton were bowled out for 140. Alfie Turner and Asad Rafiq picked up two wickets apiece, while opener Asad Mahmood (35) provided Wolverton's only resistance. 

Horspath 3rd went top of Division 4A with an excellent 26-run victory at home to Great Brickhill 2nd. 

Having been bowled out for 150 after electing to bat, Horspath's bowlers rose to the occasion to skittle Brickhill for 124.

Ed Oakley shone with his haul of 4-28 including the wicket of Austin John, who held the visitors' innings together with 67 from 91 deliveries, which featured six fours and four sixes. The Horspath seamer was well supported by Erasmus Du Toit (2-22) and Jason Cardy (2-28), while Adrian Manger took 1-9 off his seven overs. 

Earlier, opener Dan Todd had top-scored for Horspath with a fluent 31 as James Wagg took 4-27 and James Clark 3-33.
