Rain ruins Horspath's victory hopes on a soggy Saturday

RAIN ruined any hopes Horspath had of victory on Saturday with all four teams seeing their matches abandoned after play got under way.

The 1st XI had reached 88-3 off 16.3 overs after electing to bat at Aston Rowant in the Home Counties Premier League when the heavens opened bringing an early end to proceedings. Opener Tom Coleman was unbeaten on 26 after Harrison Ward had made a breezy 25.

Horspath 2nd were left ruing the bad weather after reducing Horley to 37-7 off 13.2 overs in Cherwell League Tier 2B at the Recreation Ground. The visitors' decision to bat first backfired in spectacular fashion as Charlie Turner (2-4) and Adeel Rehman (2-27) did the early damage, before Alfie Turner (2-2) and Asad Rafiq (1-4) tightened Horspath's grip. However, it was all to no avail.

With the league having given Horspath three home fixtures, the 3rd XI's Tier 3A game against Didcot 2nd was switched to their opponents' ground. After being put in to bat, Horspath were 63-1 from 16 overs with Chris Batten, who hit 68 not out in the seven-wicket win at Eynsham last week, continuing where he left off with an unbeaten 34 when the game was called off.

Horspath 4th put visitors Aston Rowant 4th in to bat and saw them reach 70-3 off 13 overs in Tier 5A when their game was washed out.
