OPENER Tom Beresford and Mark Skelton hit half-centuries as Horspath 2nd got the better of a draw at Challow & Childrey in Cherwell League Division 2.

Beresford made 78 from 139 balls with nine fours before Skelton smashed 54 off 45 deliveries with five fours and two sixes as Horspath posted 189-7 after electing to bat. Joe Harris (4-40) was the pick of the home attack.

Tyrone Eyles (3-25) then produced a devastating opening burst to reduce Challow to 16-3, and Skelton completed an excellent all-round game with 3-30. But the hosts held out for a draw at 122-8 with Conor Jones (33) leading the resistance.

Teenager Josh Richardson shone again with 4-28 as Horspath 3rd defeated visitors Great & Little Tew by 56 runs in a low-scoring Division 4 encounter.

Defending 127 after being put in to bat, Horspath bowled out Tew for just 71 with the 14-year-old leg-spinner, who claimed his first league five-wicket haul two weeks ago, leading the way. Sam Barnes made 48 for Tew, but his efforts to keep Horspath at bay proved in vain.

Earlier, Horspath had been indebted to Cummings and Fred Wilkinson for their final total as they shared what was to prove an important tenth-wicket partnership of 31. Aluptageen Maqbool (5-25) and Sam Catling (4-35) did the damage for the visitors.

Horspath 4th's match at Wolverton 2nd in Division 7 was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.
