Horspath 2nd fall short in basement battle

HORSPATH 2nd slid to a 15-run defeat at home to Leighton Buzzard Town in their Cherwell League Division 2 basement battle.

The visitors made 213 all out after electing to bat with Dan Scott hitting 63 off 73 balls as the tail wagged after Buckingham had been 128-6. Greg Proudfoot had earlier made 31 before falling to Jamil Faruq, who impressed in taking 3-20 from ten overs. Shahbaz Ali (2-36), Alfie Turner (2-43) and Luke Heritage (1-28) also picked up wickets, while both openers fell to Dan Todd run outs.

Robbie Eason (64) and Cameron Dockerill (37) got Horspath's reply off to a solid start with 86 for the first wicket, before a mini-collapse left them 118-4. Eason and Faruq (48) took the score to 170, but then the last six wickets went down for just 28 runs as Horspath were bowled out for 198 with Antony Francis (4-31), Phil Whatmore (3-20) and Scott (3-37) doing the damage.



Horspath 3rd's batting failed to fire in a four-wicket defeat at Witney Mills in Division 4.

Dan Jones (31) provided the only resistance as Horspath were shot out for 116 after being inserted with Joe Cockroft (3-10) and Pierre Lefort (3-19) the chief destroyers. Mills skipper Oliver Burney then made 56 at the top of the order to set his side up for victory at 118-6. Jason Cardy (2-23) was the pick of the Horspath attack.

Horspath 4th suffered a seven-wicket defeat at home to Bicester & North Oxford 2nd in Division 7.

Opener Mike Naylor top-scored with 40 as Horspath were bowled out for 151 after being put in to bat, with only Adam Thompson (27) and Paul Hicks (26) providing any support. Matthew Clark (4-30) and Kharka Bahadur (4-34) shone for the visitors.

Bicester then eased to 153-3 with opener Matthew Collins (51no) steering them home after Sam Baker made 38. Joe Gibbs picked up a wicket on his league debut in a tidy spell of 1-24.
