Horspath bow out in Home Counties Twenty20

HORSPATH bowed out of the Home Counties Premier League Twenty20 with a frustrating ten-run defeat by Buckingham Town in the first round at Banbury.

Chasing Buckingham's 169-4 after putting their opponents in to bat, Will Eason's side looked to be on course for victory with second-wicket pair Tom Cosford and Darryl Brown bringing up the 100 in the 11th over.

But after Cosford fell for 59 from 37 balls, with six fours and three sixes, the innings faltered and they fell short on 159-5. Brown made 70 off 59 deliveries, which included seven fours and a six.

Earlier, Oxfordshire captain Jonny Cater hit a brilliant unbeaten 82 from 41 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes, to steer Buckingham to their final total. In the quarter-final which followed, Buckingham went down by 26 runs to Banbury.

Meanwhile, Tom Beresford made 84 as Horspath 2nd beat Horley by 72 runs in a friendly at the Recreation Ground. Beresford's excellent knock steered Horspath to 257-6, before the visitors were restricted to 185-9.
