U17s win County Title

The victorious Horspath Under 17s
The U17s capped off a great weekend for the Club by winning the County competition on Sunday. A revised format for the day saw the top two teams from each county section playing semi finals in the morning with the final and 3rd/4th team play off in the afternoon.

Horspath were drawn against Minster Lovell and set off at a rapid rate after being asked to bat first, However the dismissals of captain Asad Rafiq, Harrison Ward, Charan Chabal and Ryan Hicks at regular intervals made it 67 for 4 at the 10 over stage. Then a superb partnership of 99 between Tyron Eales 67 [2 sixes 8 fours] and Max Smith 42* [1 six 4 fours] saw Horspath to a formidable 177 for 6 at the end of the 20 overs. Despite an aggressive 28 from Oliver Mursh and a composed unbeaten 47 from Jacob Mayers Minster never got in a position to challenge the total. There were two wickets apiece for Lloyd Belcher, Harrison, Tyrone and one for Asad, which with the help of three run outs saw Minster all out for125 in the 18th over.

The final saw Horspath take on Aston Rowant, winners of their semi final against Great Tew. Rowant batted first and a fine bowling performance with Adeel Rehman the pick with 2 for 18 of his 4 overs and some good fielding, with Jehan Swaine outstanding, saw Rowant restricted to 128 for 4 in their 20 overs with Max Mortimer (41*) and Alex Ferrera (34) the main contributors. Despite the early loss of Harrison an excellent partnership between Asad 41 [3 sixes 5 fours] and Charan unbeaten on 49 [1 six 6 fours] saw Horspath comfortably home in the 16th over for the loss of 4 wickets.

Congratulations to the team that also included Jamie Wells and George Horsley, along with their astute manager Chris Jones. Unfortunately Asad was unable to receive the prestigious Honey B trophy from the family of the late Morris Honey as it had not been returned for the day.
