Richard Howard

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Richard Howard. Richard was first and foremost a superb cricketer. He was already making his mark as a player in Barbados before he emigrated to the UK and began working for BT.

He and his brothers were the backbone of the formidable Casuals team and his wicket became the most prized in Oxfordshire Cricket. His prowess as a batsman, coupled with his talent as a wicketkeeper led to him being selected for Oxfordshire.

On retirement he returned to Barbados from where he helped set up the Horspath tours to the Island. We were honoured to have him represent the Club on the first two tours and were grateful for the wonderful hospitality he helped provide. The party he hosted on the last tour being particularly memorable.

As his health deteriorated he returned to the UK and became a regular visitor to the Club, where he was always delighted to reminisce about former opponents and matches. His presence will be sorely missed by those fortunate enough to have known him and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

The funeral is to be held at St Marys and St Johns this Friday 1.45pm.
