Start of Summer Brings Out the Crowds

With the summer finally getting under and away last weekend large numbers came to the Rec to reacquaint themselves with the game of cricket. Over 150 were at the ground to watch the seconds secure a winning draw against Wallingford and stay in the promotion positions.

The weather looks like staying fine so there should again be a large crowd at the Ground on Saturday as the 1st X1 continue with their objective to bounce back into the Home Counties League when they take on third placed Leighton Buzzard. With pretty much a full strength side available they will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Cherwell League that stretches back to the 16th May 2009. On the second pitch the thirds have what looks like a tough fixture against Tiddington 2nds and will be searching for points to help lift them away from the danger of relegation.

Numbers at the Rec are bound to be further boosted as the Hammers are staging the Home Countries International Championship at the home track. The Hammers have two riders in England’s line up; two are in the Welsh team, whilst a further two are representing Ireland.
The Horspath Hammers are once again enjoying a memorable season, winning the coveted British Team Championship in Hull last weekend, narrowly beating Leicester Monarchs in the Final so many congratulations to them
